The annual Draft Horse Show of the Bath County Horse Show was held
on Saturday, July 8th,2017 at the Owingsville Lions Club Fairgrounds. The event was hosted by the Eastern Kentucky Draft Horse and Mule Association.
The weather leading up to the event had been very hot, but it cooled down a bit for the show weekend. As we stated last year, the number of draft horse
owners is on the decline and those that remain are getting older and have either sold their stock or are not able to work them anymore. This was probably the
last year that this show will be held as there were only 3 horses in attendance and, just like the pull the night before, all of them belonged to the
members of the Orme family. The Farm Wagon class had a special trophy in memory of Mark Orme that was donated by Smokey Bare, owner of Su Say Farm of Lexington, Ky.
Smokey was on hand to give the trophy to the winner of the class, Charles Orme and Mark's daughter Stacy. A special thank you from Mike and Joyce Downs and the members
of the Eastern Kentucky Draft Horse and Mule Association goes out to the members of the Orme family for the amount of work they went to in order to make the show
a success. It is a lot of work to prepare and transport all of the horses and equipment necessary to be able to participate in a show like this. The photos that
I took at the show can be accessed by clicking the link below.
