The annual Draft Horse Farm Pull of the Owingsville Horse Show was held
on Friday evening, July 6, 2018 at the Owingsville Lions Club Fairgrounds. The event was hosted by the Eastern Kentucky Draft Horse and Mule Association.
The weather was great for the event with clear skies and temperature that were falling from the past few weeks. There was a fairly large number of spectators
on hand to watch the proceedings. The only thing missing from making this a
perfect weekend were horses. There were only two teams of big horses on hand and these were both provided by the Orme family. There was also a pair of 36 inch
ponies who delighted the spectators as they held their own pull between the weight classes of the big horses. Surprisingly, it was an entertaining show as the
weights got up to 8,000 pounds before Charlie Orme had to stop. One of his horses was a replacement who was brought in at the last minute to replace the regular
member of the team who had gone lame. His brother Mike managed to pull the 8,000 load and went on to also pull 8,500 pounds before he too met
his match when the sled was loaded up with 9,000 pounds of block. Due to the small number of participants, there wasn't much rest time for these two teams
between pulls and I think that had an impact on their ability to pull any more weight. Click the link below to see photos from this event.
