The members of the Southern Indiana Draft Horse and Mule Association were invited
to the farm of Rudy and Phyllis Woolsey in Caneyville, Kentucky for a weekend wagon ride over the first weekend of May, 2018. Many of the attendees arrived on
Thursday May 3, 2018 as the plan was to ride on Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th. The ride on Friday covered about 19 miles and include 14 units. Most of the
wagons were pulled by teams of mules. Since this was my first time attending this event, your photographer didn't know about the plans to ride on Friday, so we have
no photos from the Friday ride except for a few shots as they returned to the farm Friday afternoon. Once all of the livestock was taken care of, our hosts had a
big pot luck supper followed by some live music and a lot of camaraderie.
Following a big Saturday morning breakfast, the group was again ready to hit the back roads of west central Kentucky for a 20 mile ride. This time there were 15 wagons, each pretty well
full of passengers. It had started to rain during the early morning hours and continued throughout the day, but it didn't seem to dampen anyone's spirits. The
dark, wet conditions did make it a little hard for me to get good photos, but I was able to get enough photos to make a nice presentation.
Just like on Friday evening, after the ride there was a big, tasty meal and some excellent live music to entertain the crowd well into the wee hours of the morning.
As it seems like always happens, once the fog lifted on Sunday morning the sky was beautiful and the temperature was perfect. Unfortunately, everyone was
getting ready to head back home and after another fine breakfast, people began to roll out. I must congratulate Rudy and Phyllis for planning a fine event. If there
was anyone there who didn't have a good time, it's their own fault.
