2018 Columbia Mule Day Wagon Train

The 2018 Mule Day wagon train departed Decaturville, Tn. on March 30th to begin the trip over to Columbia, TN for the Columbia Mule Day celebration. (Note: This is a private group and NOT the "official" Mule Day wagon train!) We had 9 or 10 wagons and between 15 and 20 outriders each day as various folks came and went throughout the week. Other than a broken tongue on day 1 that was quickly repaired, we had minimal equipment problems although we did have a few other adventures along the way as you will see in the photos. However, none of these resulted in anything more than a few embarrassed teamsters with some possibly dirty laundry.

The temperature varied between 25 and 80 degrees F during the week with overcast skies for several of the days, but we didn't have to deal with any daytime rain until after we arrived at Columbia. We did have a problem with a soggy field at our first stopover due to rain prior in the week, but we got out without too much difficulty. It did start raining pretty hard on Friday afternoon at Columbia during the wagon show and the committee basically cancelled the remaining events for Friday, but not before one of the wagons from the wagon train took the blue ribbon in it's class. If you look at the photos you will note that the stands were pretty full before the rain started, but they were totally empty once the downpour began. That rain brought in some very chilly air with it and by noon on Saturday, there were quite a few empty camping spots on the grounds. One of those who left on Saturday was yours truly. I don't mind getting wet or being cold, but when they both occur at the same time, this old man is done.

Again, the overcast conditions all week did present some challenging conditions for your photographer. In addition, I was unable to retrieve the photos from the Thursday evening supper get together due to a corrupt disk. This year I broke the photos up into 3 segments, each covering a few days. The photos at Columbia includes friends from the wagon train, other friends I ran into and a few photos from around the grounds. As always, I hope you enjoy viewing the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!
