Following right on the heels of the annual week long wagon train of the Kentucky Trail Blazers from Shelbyville to Renfro Valley, several of the wagons from that group left Renfro Valley on Sunday, October 4th to go south to the annual Daniel Boone Festival scheduled for the following weekend in Barbourville, Kentucky. They were joined by a few wagons who had not been able to make the Renfro Valley ride. After all of the rain the prior week, it was great to start this week's trip under bright sunny skies. The group traveled Sunday and Monday before laying over at Levy Jackson State Park in London, Kentucky on Tuesday. We hit the road again on Wednesday and arrived in Barbourville late that afternoon where we camped on the grounds of an elementary school. Thursday and Friday were spent relaxing around the grounds with a few wagons hooking up and riding around the town. There were some showers late in the day on Friday and the sky remained overcast for most of the day on Saturday. On Saturday afternoon there is a big parade through the town which most of the wagons who had made the trip participated in. The Daniel Boone Festival Committee estimates that the parade draws as many as 30,000 spectators into the town, although the overcast cool weather this year may have kept some of them away.
