Well, another weekend, another threat of rain! That's becoming the standard for every weekend around here this summer. This time we were planning to hold our annual big July 4th party at Mike Stroub and Patricia Hick's farm down on the south fork of the Licking River just north of Cynthiana Kentucky. Several of us were able to get down on the river and get our camps set up on Friday afternoon before the deluge started. Once the rains began, there was no way that anyone else was going to be able to get down the hill and drive the 1/4 mile to the camping area over the slippery, muddy roads, either with or without 4 wheel drive. Needless to say, this sure kept away a lot of the normal crowd. However, Saturday and Sunday were dry and the roads eventually dried out enough to be passable on Sunday when everyone was ready to go home. In the meantime, we were able to hook up our horses and went for rides both days. Unfortunately, the river was up and the current was flowing pretty quickly, so we weren't able to do our normal swimming, fishing, and we also didn't ford the river like we usually do. It was a little disappointing overall, but I think everyone still had a great time. Just wait until next year.......
Not really a horse photo, but it's cute and in keeping with the July 4th theme!
