It was one year ago on June 3, 2007 that we all lost a great friend when Earl Crump suddenly and unexpectedly departed this life and moved on to that great horse camp in the heavens. A small group of his many friends got together on the weekend following that first anniversary to celebrate Earl's memory by doing what he loved to do which was to hook up our teams and ride our wagons over the country backroads of his beloved Scott county near Sadieville, Ky. We met at the home that Earl and his wife Lisa had worked so hard on and had only just moved into 2 days before his death. Lisa expressed her disappointment that there wasn't enough parking space available to invite all of the many horse friends whose company Earl so enjoyed. It was one of the first really hot weekends of the summer and we maintained a nice slow pace to ensure that the horses didn't overheat. We even managed to have a breakdown when one of the teams bent the tongue on Bobby Lee's wagon. It was patched using Earl's favorite tool....a roll of duct tape and a "borrowed" fence post. Overall it was a great day and everyone had a fun time coupled with a few sad moments as we ended our ride by stopping at the Davis cemetery to visit Earl's final resting place.
Everyone who knew Earl knew of his love for spotted horses. Here are his two favorites!
